Based in West Sussex, Konnections supports children and young people in partnership with their parents or carers to manage and reduce challenging behaviours. Founders Nici and Carolien use their years of experience in teaching and 'mediated learning’ to ensure each child or young person develops creative, independent and practical thinking skills.
Carolien has been a Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher since 2012 and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Children with Autism. She went on to study the Feuerstein method of mediated learning in order to further develop her knowledge of neuro-plasticity and thinking skills. In addition, she is a Certified Trauma Support Specialist and provides Trauma Informed Care. She has also acquired a level 3 diploma in Child Psychology and her level 4 SEND diploma. Carolien has undertaken considerable training in Self-harm & Suicide Prevention, Mental Health, Speech & Language development and has recently acquired her counselling qualifications. She currently trains staff at numerous schools about SEN and behaviour and she supports parents/carers to ensure children reach their full potential.
Together with parents/carers, Carolien can change children’s thinking and successfully reduce challenging and anti-social behaviours. She works primarily with school aged children who may express challenging behaviours associated with autism, ADHD, trauma, attachment, anxiety or emotional development. Carolien also supports children who are struggling socially, emotionally or academically who do not have a diagnosis of SEN.
Carolien uses her experience, training and expertise to ensure each child develops the ability to think independently, practically and regulate emotionally.
